Have you lived in the Bay Area but never really walked around the city of San Francisco? I'm looking to organize a walking tour in SF. Date is now set to Saturday 4/2/05.

I'll try to give you the 'SF experience' as both a tourist but also as a native. So my thoughts so far are that the trip will include:

1. SF Muni bus rides. No point parking in SF when we're gonna walk anyways, and it'll be a new experience for most of you. The SF bus system is pretty good actually Smile

2. Lunch in Chinatown or around there - Little Italy, or another place via group consensus.

3. Some ideas of what to see:
* Market St/Union Sq area
* Coit tower and surrounding neighborhoods
* Cable car museum
* SF library, Civic center
* Embarcadero St - the piers.
* Chrissy field, Marina district
* Pier 39, Fisherman's wharf, Ghirardelli Square
* Japantown
* Presidio
* Golden Gate Park, Ocean beach
* Alamo Square (TV show "Full House")
* Haight
* Castro
* Seacliff district
* West portal district
* Mission district
* Mt. Davidson, Twin Peaks
* Others.... your suggestions

Obviously we can't walk to all of these in one day, so if this trip goes well, I'll organize another in the future to cover other areas.

4. Note this is not a shopping trip though we will most likely go through some shopping districts Smile

5. Depending on the places we go, we can easily rack up 7 to 15 miles, but dont worry too much cuz there'll be plenty of places to rest and eat. So you dont even have to bring food and water should you not want to! And if you get really tired, just hop on a bus and call it a day!

I'm not much of a city person myself but I do think it's a good thing to walk around and see and understand a little better "the city by the bay".

6. I would like us to start at about 9-10 am, and spend at least a good 5-6 hrs around town.

Next steps:
1. Vote which day works better for you.
2. Vote which areas you'd like to see.
3. Email me or post here other areas to add to the voting list.
4. Voice other suggestions/questions you may have.

I am VERY interested in walking tour in SF. But I will attend the paintball fight this Saturday and not sure if I can recover/survive after that battle. Wink

I will keep an eye on this and hope to join next time.

Paul, probably you can plan a "SF Walking Tour Series". There are lots of fun places to go and one day tour is clearly not enough. Just my 2 cents.

Yup, definitely one day is not enough. I want to get an idea of what folks are interested in, then pick some destinations for the first trip, and save the rest for other trips.

San Francisco tour series will be a great idea. I've been living around SF for several years but still I'm not that familiar with the local sites. I really want to join you guys next time.

One day may be only enough for a couple of sites. We need a lot more days to go! Razz Smile

hehe,

how about bi-weekly tour series? And tour may not be limited to SF, but also include surrounding vicinities? such as Sausalito, Tiburon, sunset area,
Stinsen Beach, etc.

Just my 2 cents,

Li

According to yahoo weather (who we all know not to trust too much), Saturday is mostly sunny whereas Sunday may have a few showers. Keep this in mind as you rsvp. Let's keep a close watch on the forecast and we'll make a decision by Thursday evening.

Please let me know if you can only go on the day you selected, or if the other day is also ok with you?

If Sunday, it'll be me plus 2 guests.

I have been to most of the places listed above. It's not possible to visit each and everyone of them in one day.
You guys can get the city pass if you guys are going to visit Palace of Fine Art and Exploratorium. I like those two a lot. It will take half a day each to truly enjoy them.

Good morning everyone, thanks for your rsvps so far!

I've checked the weather again and it looks like Sun is still forecast with showers at times. It's probably no big deal to us rugged outdoors folks, right? Smile But Sun is also supposed to be a little cooler in temperature than Sat.

Anyhow, I am leaning towards setting the trip on Saturday at this point. I know some of you can't go if it's saturday and I'm very sorry about that, but if this trip goes well, we'll definitely have another in the future.

Alas, if you can convince us to hold the trip on Sunday, let's hear it! Otherwise, please update your rsvp with # of guests, date preference, etc, assuming the trip is on Saturday. Thanks everyone!

Cannot join this weekend, but interested in future walk for sure.

There is a place called 花街 on Lombard Street, not sure if it is included in Paul's list as I don't know its English name. Any spring flowers blooming there?
